On February 26, the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (TEC de Monterrey) Puebla Campus inaugurated the Migration and Social Impact Hub, a knowledge space that seeks to promote the study of migration from an interdisciplinary approach and promote a global citizenship that is aware and connected to its environment. The International Organization for Migration (IOM/UN Migration) in Mexico was invited to accompany this important event, which allowed it to reaffirm its commitment to this prestigious educational institution, academia and youth in the promotion of safe, orderly and regular migration.

Dr. Viviana Ortiz Meillón, general director of the Tec Campus Puebla, highlighted the importance of having a physical space where the academic minds of the institution can come together to propose solutions on migration: "We don't only care about Mexico, we care about all of humanity, and from there we want to be hospitable," Ortiz said.
For his part, Dr. Andrés Roberto Barradas Gurruchaga, professor at the School of Humanities and Education and promoter of the HUB, pointed out that this space represents a dream shared between schools, universities and associations with a common goal: to humanize migration and raise awareness about its impact: "It is not only a necessity, it is a right that allows us to grow as people." said the academic.
Academics and students from the Tec de Monterrey Puebla Campus were present at the inauguration of the HUB, such as Dr. Alejandra Castaño-Echeverri, Division Director of the School of Humanities and Education; Mtra. Marina Cadena Zermeño, director of the Bachelor's Degree in Communication; Mtra. Pilar Rodríguez Dobarganes, director of Operational Services; Mtra. Jessica Gutiérrez Olivero, Division Director of the School of Architecture, Art and Design; Dr. Margarita Herrera, Entrepreneurship Manager; and on behalf of the Communication students, the student Andrea de la Cruz.
The event was also attended by Mexican filmmaker Samuel Kishi, IOM Mexico Goodwill Ambassador, who highlighted the relevance of telling stories of migration and other forms of human mobility with dignity, truth and depth: "In a world where mobility is a daily reality, efforts like these make this phenomenon visible and give a face," said the author of films such as "Los Lobos" and television series such as "Nobody is going to miss us", on Netflix.
As part of the event, Samuel Kishi also gave a lecture within the framework of the "Comunicar 2025 Congress", where he shared his career in cinema, the challenges he faced and the way in which his passion and perseverance drove him to move forward. In addition, he motivated students to trust in their talent, explore new opportunities and not give up in the pursuit of their dreams.
The presentation of the HUB gave continuity to the collaboration between IOM Mexico and the TEC de Monterrey Campus Puebla through the Global Academy of Media and Migration (GMMA) project. Since 2023, both institutions have worked on projects to promote more ethical and humane media coverage of migration, and facilitated workshops, courses, and training activities for students and communication professionals.
The GMMA and IOM Mexico celebrates the opening of the Migration and Social Impact HUB and reaffirms its commitment to continue collaborating with academic institutions, students and experts to promote a more humane and proactive vision of migration in Mexico.
