Stories that Move: Reporting on Gender and Migration

  • Author: IOM and UN Women
  • Level: Beginner
  • Time: 60 minutes

Course description

The media has the power to shape how society understands migration—not only who’s moving where, but also for what reasons, under what conditions, and with what consequences. Applying a gender lens helps ensure that these stories reflect the realities, rights, and voices of migrants in all their diversity, with a particular focus on migrant women and migrants with diverse SOGIESC.

By the end of this module, you should be equipped with the knowledge, tools, and best practices to report on migration in a gender-responsive, ethical, and inclusive way—amplifying the voices of women, girls, and migrants with diverse SOGIESC and accurately reflecting the complex realities of migration
